Kick for Change turns Mumbai into a football ground

Kick for Change is a very interesting campaign started by NGO, Magic Bus. The digital campaign turns the city of Mumbai into a giant football ground! Using Google maps, the site has laid out a path stretching 83 km (83,000 m) across the city.

The campaign asks visitors to make a donation by kicking a football on this map. Each donation of a small sum of 300 rupees ($6) will kick a virtual football forward 2 meters on this 83000 meter ground.
This donation drive will change the lives of 17000 street children. The money and support raised will directly go to Magic Bus’ unique Sports for Development Programme that empowers underprivileged children and youth in making effective life choices.

kickforchange

Besides the innovative use of web technology we are also trying to make fund raising a fun initiative rather than the plain old ‘go help a child’. We’re also heavily banking on social media to spread the word and have already got support from the local blogs in the city of Mumbai.

Of all the charity drives we have seen so far, Kick for change is probably the most well thought out. So go kick and bring that change.

Game Ventures releases Homerun Heroes

My first gaming experience was on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It was a gift from my dad after I’d done well in my end-of-year exams in primary school. The first game cartridge I got was a 20-in-1. I spent hours on Battle City in 2P mode with my dad, but when he was at Continue reading → Related posts:

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Available in India (Unofficially) for INR 43,500+

Samsung Galaxy Nexus is available in India for the price of INR 43,500 onwards. While Samsung/Google hasn’t yet announced the India plans (except for putting up a landing page), there are sellers in eBay selling the device from INR 43,500 onwards.galaxy_nexus_india

Samsung Galaxy Nexus ships with the much talked about Android OS version, i.e. Ice Cream Sandwich which brings an entirely new look and feel to Android.

As far as the official launch is concerned, Google has created a special page for Nexus for not just India, but for several other countries like Pakistan/Sri Lanka etc – so there doesn’t seem to be a direct connection with the country specific launch.

Do you think INR 43,500+ is a good price for Samsung Galaxy Nexus in India (same as iPhone 4S price in India?). We’d recommend that you wait for few more months and get ripped-apart by operators (who will sell data plan with Samsung Galaxy Nexus) rather than eBay sellers.

If Google Docs & Dropbox had a Love Child, it would be Insync

Earlier this year, I blogged that the future of personal storage is in the cloud. It certainly wasn’t a revolutionary statement, especially when the writing was already on the wall in the form of Amazon S3, Google Documents, Dropbox and Box.net. Still, not everything is as straightforward as the average internet-going Joe is used to. Amazon Continue reading → Related posts:

Japan’s App Discovery Engine, Peepapp, Works Great With Friends [PICS]

peepapp-logo10 days ago, we shared with you about Peepapp. In short, Peepapp helps you discover new and trending apps through your social connections. I must say I like it a lot. The only problem is that the app needs traction: If people don’t start joining and connecting with others, the user would never experience the beauty of the app.

So I gave it some time to gain traction and it looks like it has gotten quite some users over the past couple of days. I followed a couple of my friends and strangers (about ten of them) and… bam… I can finally see the value of Peepapp.

Once you follow other users, the “ranking tab” becomes active. I can see trending new apps that my network is using. According to Peepapp, most of my friends are using Facebook messenger and the Bump app which implies I should give them a try too. That’s pretty neat for a start. And Peepapp’s app discovery and recommendation will only get better as my network of friends grows larger.

Perhaps what Peepapp should do is to recommend newcomers to follow some of its power users; just like what Twitter and Weibo did. This way, users would see Peepapp’s real benefit instantly (because of it activates the ranking tab) and has more compelling reasons to invite their friends to come on board. Just like what I’m doing now — Download Peepapp here (iTunes link), follow some people, and experience its awesomeness.

Don’t Have A Good or Great Idea? Crowdsource One

A good or great idea is not enough to start up a company. It a beginning but you need support, discussion and a team, where you get to know the viability of your idea. You need to develop many steps to execute the idea, but more importantly you need people that are as passionate as you about building something.  These people are out there but so hard to find. goodidea

Good or Great Idea” is a place where you can post ideas for new products or services and also crowdsource an idea/support for improving an existing product or service without paying anything. The product and service could be an idea for developing an application like iPhone app, Android app, or new products line like tablets or phones.  It can be any innovation technology/services for cloud, web-based service, enterprise software, or any industry specific business line like clothing line, home-care product,s furniture, electronics, medical equipment, consumer products, automotive, etc.

On Good or Great Idea, you can share as much detail as you would like, per you choice and convenience. Besides the idea description, you have the option to provide additional information. You can also control who can read your ideas – If you would like maximum exposure and earn maximum points, you can make your idea public OR If you want only selected people to be able to read your ideas, post your ideas to a group that you either created or are a member of. So you have the option to discuss your idea only with people you trust, by being ‘Friends’ with them through a small link on their profile page.

You can earn points by a judge point for every idea that your rate, earn a collaborator point for every constructive comment, and earn innovator points for not only posting an idea, but also get awarded points every time someone rates your idea. Invite your friends to rate your idea. The more people you invite, the more points you can earn. At the end, this point system allows you to stand out from your peers and gain world-wide recognition. Top innovators and judges are listed on the front page. By actively posting and rating ideas, you get an opportunity to get your name out in front of all the visitors to this site, though I would not be surprised if this is goes on to be just another Klout score.

The main motive or attraction of posting an idea at Good or Great Idea is to get a platform where you can evaluate your thoughts, solicit feedback, and get different views that would add value in execution. At the same time, you can track interesting ideas posted by others and contact an innovator directly. This place can help you find an investor/venture capitalist, who may see your idea, like it, and offer to invest in it, also find people who have the skills and interest to help you turn your dream into reality. You get introduced to like-minded people who have a common taste and share a common passion, and are interested to work on your ideas, geographical barriers notwithstanding.

“This site could help further accelerate the pace of innovation in India. As more people start using it, more interesting ideas will see the light of the day, instead of remaining locked in people’s heads.” says Mohammed Guller, founder of Good or Great Idea, headquartered in California.

The site looks like a Good idea. Or maybe Great. What do you think? Would you like to share your entrepreneurial ideas in a bid to get them evaluated? Would you seek out interested people or ideas using Good or Great Idea? Can this site help you transform an idea from being good to a great one? Let us know in the comments.
