The $3 billion company has partnered with MAK Mobility Private Limited, a distribution and supply chain company in the country.
“We plan to create localized mobile internet eco-system by providing smart devices bundled with cloud based services and applications,” said Li Hongtao, Chairman of Konka Telecom.
Konka, which mostly makes large appliances, television, phone equipment and set top boxes for the Chinese market will also set up smartphone experience zones in retail outlets across the country.
With over 900 million mobile subscriptions, Indian mobile market is one which very few players want to miss. Another Chinese phone company Huawei has recently become active in Indian smartphone market.
Huawei is looking to make nearly $350 million in revenues by selling consumer products in India this year. Nearly 30 % of the $350 million will come from mobile devices, the company had earlier said. Most of its revenues will come from sales of set top boxes.
However, the company is planning to increase the number of smartphone sales to 800,000 compared to 500,000 last year.
The company also sells co-branded phones with telcos like Spice. It also launched India’s first 4G LTE phone with Airtel in October. Huawei has tied up with Redington in India for distribution. The company wants to create 250 Huawei experience centers in India by the end of this year.
In November, Lenovo, entered the smartphone market in India. The world’s number one PC maker which already has a large share of India’s Personal Computer market, announced a range of Android based smartphones to be sold in the country.
The phones imported from China were first sold in Gujarat and are now being sold in various parts of the country. The company is likely to refresh its product line in 2013.
