In its Q4 2012 Device Activation Report, released by Good Technology, data reveals that Android tablets are starting to gain momentum and that iPhone 5 is the most popular device among 4,000 enterprise customers.
Good Technology today released Q4 2012 Device Activation Report, which gives insight to smartphone and tablet activations among Good’s enterprise customers, with noteworthy changes and trends in device and mobile operating system choices within corporations highlighted.
More than 4,000 customers were represented in this survey, including leading companies from various industries, like financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, energy & utilities, legal, government, and high tech
It revealed that the iOS platform is currently dominating the enterprise market, with a 8.5 percent increase year on year in terms of activations, growing from 71 percent in Q4 of 2011 to 77 percent in Q4 2012. With its latest iPhone 5 now reigning as the most popular device in Q4 of 2012, representing 32 percent of all activations in the quarter, the iPad, too, is leading its market in terms of activations. In the report, it notes that the iPad is dominating the tablet market with 93.2 percent and that Android tablets are starting to gain speed.
With regards to industry, financial services led enterprise device activations during Q4, and that is followed by business and professional services. In Q4, these two industries made up more than half of the activations reported.

With a slight dip of 6.3 percent in terms of Android activations as compared to Q4 2011, they still managed to account for 22.7 percent for all activations for the quarter, which Good reported that it was primarily driven by Android tablets. Windows Phone devices came in third for the quarter, accounting for only a meagre 0.5 percent of overall activations.
Jim Watson, vice president and corporate general manager at Good Technology, said, ““CIOs today are able to realise increased productivity by supporting a diverse set of mobile products, while retaining security and control, and still provide their employee consumers with product choice. We continue to see more enterprise customers extending the accessibility of mobile applications to a broader employee population within their organisations.”
